Fih Traveler Guide Service, Eagle Lake Fishing Report for Sunday, June 20, 2010

Howdy Folks,
Solid fishing again this past week. We had overcast skies and choppy conditions on the water through Wednesday, June 16. Fishing through Wednesday was great with an all morning bite due to the cloud cover and good chop on the water. On Wednesday afternoon, the skies cleared, the wind died, and the temperatures rose. The early morning bite on Thursday was just that, early, and only early. The same was true for Friday. The water was like glass by 7:30 A.M. and the bite was tough for the rest of the morning both days.

I have moved up my departure time from the dock from 5:00 to 4:30 A.M. to allow for more fishing time before the sun rises. If the forecast calls for no wind and bright, cloudless skies, the premium fishing time for both trollers and bobber fishermen on Eagle Lake will be from first legal fishing time (around 4:30 A.M.) until 7:30-8:00 A.M.

Trolling:
I continued to fish the west side of the lake this week where the fish are feeding heavily in shallow water, especially early. We are working water from 8-12 feet deep, trolling our baits 4-6 feet deep on downriggers, 150 feet behind the boat. The best baits this week were, again, Sep's #2 Watermelon Grubs. Many folks are having very good success trolling flies. Orange and olive green have been good colors for the trolling flies.

The average size of the fish this week was 17-20 inches. These fish weigh in between 2 and 2.75 lbs. They are bright silver on the outside and bright red on the inside, great table fare.

Bobber Fishing:
Same story here. Bobber fishing has been good for those fishermen that fish EARLY. Shrimp Island Point and off the Youth Camp shoreline have been producing for the bobber fishermen. They are anchoring in 15-20 feet of water and setting their threaded night crawlers 8-10 below a slip bobber.

Launching:
Launching is no problem at the Salding Launch facility.
